
There are about 1,500 active volcanoes on Earth. Among them, around 50 volcanoes erupt every month. Most of them are not dangerous.
Mauna Loa* is the largest active volcano in the world. It is located in Hawaii. It is 4,169 meters tall.
Mauna Loa erupted 34 times in the past 200 years. The most recent eruption happened in November 2022. It was the volcano’s first eruption since 1984.
The eruption lasted about 12 days. Some flights were delayed or canceled. Also, there were large amounts of volcanic ash and gas in the air.
But fortunately, the eruption did not cause much damage to Hawaiian communities.
The Word ‘Volcano’ The word “volcano” comes from the Roman* name “Vulcan.”* He was the god of fire in Roman myth.
Magma and LavaMagma is the name of hot liquid inside a volcano. But when magma leaves the volcano, it is called lava.
