Winter has ended, and spring is finally here! Various countries have interesting traditions to welcome the new season.

Thailand

Songkran is Thailand’s New Year’s Day, and it falls on April 13th. To celebrate, Thai people hold the Songkran Water Festival for several days.

The event is known as the world’s biggest water fight. People shoot water guns, throw water balloons, and pour buckets of cool water on each other.

Switzerland

The Sechseläuten is a traditional holiday in Zurich, Switzerland. The unusual event is held on April 3rd to celebrate the end of winter.

Along with a parade, a giant figure of a snowman is stuffed with straw and cotton. Then, dynamite is used to explode it.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Zenica is a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina. On March 21st, the townspeople celebrate spring with a tradition called Cimburijada.

They gather by the river in the morning. Then, they cook and eat thousands of scrambled eggs* together. The eggs symbolize the beginning of spring and new life.
