Panama is a Central American country that connects North and South America. It is bordered by Costa Rica to the west and Colombia to the east. To the north and south, there are the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean,* respectively.

Many Panamanians are descended from indigenous people. The three largest indigenous groups are the Kunas, Emberás, and Ngöbe-Buglés. They each still live in remote areas and have their own dialects, languages, and customs.

The country is filled with diverse natural landscapes. They include rainforests, mountains, and beautiful beaches. In addition, more than 1,400 small islands belong to Panama.

Panama Canal

Panama is home to the Panama Canal. Constructed in 1914, it is a manmade waterway that connects the Atlantic Ocean* to the Pacific Ocean. By using the canal, ships can avoid the long and dangerous route around the southern tip of South America. The waterway is vital for international trade and is an important part of Panama’s economy.

Panama produces some of the world’s best coffee. Panama is a great place to grow coffee beans because of the country’s unique climate and volcanic soil. The Geisha variety of coffee is particularly popular because of its complex flavor and aroma.
