Over the years, “You Quiz on the Block” has had a wide range of guests drop by the studio for extended interviews. Recently, the variety show’s hosts, Yoo Jae-suk and Jo Se-ho, had the rare opportunity to interview Bill Gates.
In August, the world-renowned billionaire and philanthropist visited Korea as part of his mission to strengthen global health partnerships. Along with holding discussions with Korean biotech and pharmaceutical companies, he met with Korean President Lee Jae-myung to talk about cooperating on a national level.
During his visit to Korea, Gates also made time to sit down with the hosts of “You Quiz on the Block.” The interview was later aired on tvN on August 27th and was viewed by millions of people.
The interview covered a wide range of topics, and the 69-year-old Microsoft co-founder shared many insights into his life and career. For instance, he talked about how his mother greatly inspired his philanthropic work, which he has passionately dedicated himself to since retiring from Microsoft.
He also spoke of his decision to donate the majority of his fortune, rather than leaving it to his children.
“My kids should have a chance to make their own way,” Gates said.
Throughout the episode, Gates brought up the importance of curiosity, which he cited as a valuable quality in life. He said the willingness to “always be a student” can give people the flexibility needed in a fast-changing world.
At the same time, the interview had its share of lighthearted moments, such as Gates mentioning that his smartphone was a gift from Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
Gates also took part in the quiz segment of the show and correctly identified an old startup music from the Windows operating system.
