Chuseok, one of Korea’s biggest holidays, is coming soon. This year, Chuseok falls on September 25th, and people will have three days off, from September 24th to 26th.

Chuseok is a harvest festival held every autumn, and it is often called Korean Thanksgiving Day.* Families come together to thank their ancestors for the year’s harvest. They hold a special ceremony for these ancestors and honor them by visiting their graves.

On this holiday, Koreans travel to their hometowns to see their families. Highways are packed with cars, and train and express bus tickets sell out fast.

Families share a big meal with foods like songpyeon, small rice cakes shaped like half-moons. At night, people look up at the full moon and make a wish.
